Stop chasing Google rankings and fighting for page one. The new game is getting ranked by AI.
(People ask ChatGPT what haircut suits them and how to decorate the living room. Then it names businesses.)
ChatGPT is now strongest on the consumer side. People ask it all day about hairstyles, fall wardrobes, decorating, bags, makeup and perfume.
The numbers:
■ More than 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT every week (OpenAI, Oct 7, 2026).
■ 42% of U.S. consumers have used AI assistants for online shopping (Adobe survey, July 2026).
■ AI-referred visitors to U.S. retail sites converted 60% better than other traffic in July 2026 (Adobe).

Here's how a salon, an interior designer, a boutique, a med spa or a dental practice gets named in those answers:
■ 1. Let OpenAI's search crawler in. Allow OAI-SearchBot in robots.txt. Blocked sites won't show in ChatGPT search answers, per OpenAI. Blocking GPTBot (training) is a separate choice.
■ 2. Write one clear page per question your customers ask. "Balayage for dark hair." "Small living room layout ideas." FAQs and guides scored highest for AI readability in Adobe's August 2026 report.
■ 3. Back it up. In a Princeton and IIT Delhi study, adding statistics, quotes and cited sources raised visibility in AI answers by up to 40%. Keyword stuffing didn't help.
■ 4. Get mentioned where ChatGPT looks: reviews, local guides, "best of" lists. ChatGPT search cites outside sources.
■ 5. Ask ChatGPT your customers' 10 questions every month. Note who gets named and which sources it cites.
■ 6. Measure it. ChatGPT adds utm_source=chatgpt.com to the links it sends.

The honest limit: nobody controls the answer. OpenAI says placement can't be guaranteed, so check monthly.
Save this.
